ProRes in and out of Premiere Pro CC:
What are the best (fastest) sequence settings and what do I have to do to have a master file at the end in ProRes quality?
After switching from Final Cut 7 to Premiere Pro CC I was searching quite a long time to find a convincing answer because I was used to the workflow and I couldn´t understand that this should be impossible with Premiere. I tried out a few described ways but I never was satisfied. Either I´m to stupid to understand the advice from others in forums or somewhere else or I thought that this or that isn´t logical and convincing. And no-ne ever speaks about the preview file format settings.
Fortunately one day – more or less by accident – I found a good way to get the best sequence settings for ProRes footage (A) and to export my sequences as a master file in ProRes with acceptable speed (B).
Here´s my description:
|1. Go to SEQUENCE SETTINGS in the menu of PP. Click CUSTOM in the first dropdown menu EDITING MODE. Finally all the other fields and buttons are now clickable and changeable! Change, if needed, aspect ratio, frame rate etc..|
|2. Change the PREVIEW FILE FORMAT to QUICKTIME and the CODEC to your ProRes format (or any other if your workflow format isn´t ProRes as in my example here.).|
|3. Furthermore you can activate MAXIMUM RENDER QUALITY and confirm with OK in the following window.|
|4. Hit OK and that´s it!|
|1. For the export render your sequence according to your source range (e.g. from In and Out) first, then go to your export settings and there just activate MATCH SEQUENCE SETTINGS.|
|2. Additionally activate USE PREVIEWS and then hit OK. (You also can activate USE MAXIMUM RENDER QUALITY.)|
|After the rendering took a while depending on your computers strength the export is very very fast even on a slow machine and you finally have a high quality master file of your film project!|
